Our History
When Sidney VanNess, Ph. D. was in graduate school, he helped form Acumantra Solutions, Inc., a privately-held firm that developed custom software applications. As Acumantra grew, Sidney realized that his company’s client billing options were limited. Creating invoices using Microsoft Excel was really time consuming and didn’t provide tracking capabilities. But upgrading to QuickBooks just for billing seemed like overkill.
As a scientist, Sidney had a demonstrated talent for developing technology to automate various laboratory processes. By eliminating manual steps, he was able to dramatically improve efficiency and accuracy in his lab. This same strategy, he reasoned, could easily be used to solve Acumantra’s billing problem.
A Better Billing System
Acumantra assembled a team of developers to design and create a better billing system, and in 2007, Smart Invoice was launched as a simple, yet powerful online invoicing tool.
